One of today’s most sought-after cellists and teachers, Patrick Demenga studied at the Bern Conservatory, in Cologne with Boris Pergamenschikow, and with Harvey Shapiro in New York.
Demenga appears regularly at the most renowned festivals and music halls throughout Europe, South Africa, USA, Canada, South America, Australia and Asia.
He frequently collaborates with musical personalities such as Heinz Holliger, Mario Venzago, Dennis Russell Davies, Leif Segerstam, Jesus Lopez Cobos, Howard Griffith, Christoph Poppen, Leonidas Kavakos, Alexander Lonquich, Isabelle Faust, and Natalia Gutman, as well as with orchestras like the Zurich Tonhalle Orchester, Sinfonieorchester Basel, RSO Vienna, Camerata Bern, Münchener Kammerorchester, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, Kremerata Baltica, Ensemble Modern, among others.
His many radio and television recordings as well as numerous LPs and CDs (Novalis, Accord Musidisc, ECM, Sony Classical), have made him known to the international audience.
He has premiered works by composers such as Isang Yun, Gerhard Schedl, Heinz Holliger and many others.
Patrick Demenga was awarded the «Der Goldene Bogen» (Golden bow) in 2001.
For several years, he directed the festival Viva Cello in Liestal, Basel. Currently, he is the artistic director of the Vier Jahreszeiten-Konzerte in Blumenstein, near Berne, and of the Musikfestwoche Meiringen.
Patrick Demenga is a Professor of Violoncello at the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne (HEMU), in Switzerland, and also teaches at several international masterclasses.
